LA SPIA

La Spia is situated in Northern Italy’s Valetellina, where the vineyards are so steep the grapes are harvested by helicopter. Here, Nebbiolo (known locally as Chiavennasca) evolves with a silken texture, black cherry notes, hints of rose petal, prominent tannins and a structure built by fierce growing conditions.

Nestled among the terraced vineyards of Valtellina, "La Spia" is a name tied to the rocky ridge of the same name in the Sassella DOCG sub-region, itself a historic lookout post. In 1962, the property passed into the hands of the Rigamonti family, who planted the Nebbiolo. Today, La Spia owns 4.5 hectares scattered throughout Valtellina producing 25,000 bottles per year.
